About Me

Picture
Hello,

My name is Karen, I have been teaching children for 17 years. I am a wife, a mother, and a teacher. I have been married to my best friend and the love of my life for 12 years. We have two beautiful daughters; Mia 10 and Alysia 13. It is my greatest desire to share the Word of God with the children of our future. My goals are to introduce children to the love of learning, the knowledge that God is the Author of all, and the understanding of how precious they are to Jesus
.

My Teaching Philosophy

My goal is to create a rich learning environment that allows children to develop spiritual intellectually, social, physically, and emotionally, in such a way that is appropriate to their age and stage of development.  In an effort to meet each of the child’s needs, I plan to expose them to multi-sensory experiences while using an interdisciplinary approach to teaching.  An important part of teaching consists of nurturing the development of a child's self-concepts by encouraging all students to shine by reaching high, yet achievable goals.  Enhancing children’s feelings of self-worth and appreciation of their own ethnicity, culture, and language in a multicultural society, is extremely important as well as it teaches them appreciation for all people.

I feel that children learn best when they are moving, exploring and having fun; therefore, I will spend quality time with each student, while taking a hands-on approach to learning.  I value knowledge and believe that at every age we are capable of learning great and wonderful information; therefore, I will teach the children a wide variety of subjects; such as, language arts (including Spanish), math, science, social studies, hand writing, health and manners.  In addition to these subjects, the children will also be exposed to art, music, and religion.  It is my belief that a holistic approach to learning is imperative in order to cover a variety of subjects, while allowing each child to benefit from the new knowledge.  Additionally, I feel it is important to periodically provide parents with an appropriate assessment that identifies the strengths and needs of each child in order to build upon those strengths and challenge the child.

I believe that a child’s family is their first teacher and it is part of my responsibility to create a link between their home and school.  Through patience, understanding, and prayer, I will strive to instill a love of humanity and learning in each child and I will strive to make a positive difference for your child's life every day.

Mrs. Karen
